FAQ
Q: Which registry keys does 7+ Taskbar Tweaker modify? I don't need extra processes in my system.
A: The only registry keys the tweaker modifies are its own settings. There are no registry keys for the options it provides. The tweaker does that by injecting a DLL to explorer, hooking/subclassing/some other methods of the dark side.
As for extra processes, the tweaker is a native program, and is very lightweight. It shouldn’t slow down your system, and uses an extremely small amount of memory. Also, you can hide the tray icon if you want.
In case you want to remove the tweaker's settings from the registry, look for them here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\7 Taskbar Tweaker
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
(7 Taskbar Tweaker
value)
P.S. if you're a programmer, you might want to take a look at the 7+ Taskbar Tweaking Library.
Q: My antivirus complains about 7+ Taskbar Tweaker.
A: It's a false positive. I guarantee that the tweaker binaries (and any other files on this site, unless specifically noted) are 100% clean.
Also remember that the tweaker injects into explorer and modifies its memory, which is indeed suspicious.
Q: Can I Group/Combine/Label only some of the items on the taskbar?
A: Yes, use Taskbar Inspector.
Q: May I use 7+ Taskbar Tweaker in a commercial environment?
A: Yes, feel free to use it wherever you want.
Q: Where is the portable version?
A: When installing the tweaker, choose the Portable type of install, as shown on the image below.
The portable version will be extracted to the selected folder.
Note: If the tweaker is already installed on your computer, the option won't be visible. You can launch the setup with the /portable
command line switch to force a portable installation.
Q: I want to report a bug/suggest a feature! What is the best way to do it?
A: Post it on the UserEcho page.
Q: I want to translate 7+ Taskbar Tweaker to my language.
A: The archive below contains the files needed to be translated.
Please read readme.txt before proceeding.

I’m on the Windows version 19041.264 and the actual release doesn’t support Windows 2004 one, the beta doesn’t ever work and asks for a code if its over 5/10$USD I won’t to.
Guess I need to wait till weeks or months to see the support on free releases. Can’t wait. I’ll keep an eye on the webpage
I understand the frustration. I’m not a fan of donations.
I would prefer it if RaMMicHaeL committed to a business model. Personally, I would pay for a license.
Alternatively, it could be open-sourced.The Microsoft could implement the code into Windows, and claim it as their own hard work:
https://www.theverge.com/2020/6/2/21277863/microsoft-winget-windows-package-manager-appget-response-credit-comment
Me too!
I would be disappointed if he did. This is the only free software that I could find and use to disable taskbar settings easily without having to go through registry settings.
Other than that, I’m thinking there’s “alternatives” to 7TT that are just “dock” programs I see on AlternativeTo unrelated to this program’s features.
There are no alternatives for my use case:
Vertical sidebar no_width_limit boolean.
That said, it is his code. He’s certainly entitled to monetize it however he sees fit.
Thank you for the feedback Mike. It’s difficult to please everybody. You can see this comment on Reddit where I share some history about the tweaker and its “business model”.
A non-beta version with support for Windows 10 2004 will be released soon. If you’d like to get a code for the beta version, please contact me and I’ll send you one.
Sort of the point of having a paid version. It eliminates the need for back and forth. Not that there aren’t hiccups, even with perpetual licenses.
But with the current model, some have pointed out that codes will function in one build, and are subsequently disabled in another.
Also with the donation model, there is the psychological game at play. Did I donate this year? Or was it last? Do I need to donate again?
You could see the concept best exploited with the youth who subscribe to monthly Patreons “donations”, drop ungodly sums on dodgy Kickstarter projects, and are gouged for video-game DLC left and right.
As you’re surely well aware, the big SW players have also transitioned to a subscription model in annually guaranteed steady revenue.
That said, you’ve been active and responsive in the year or so since I’ve found your software.
Matter of fact, typing this post makes me feel as though I’m being unreasonable and stingy. That’s exactly what I find bothersome about the donation model.
I made the process as seamless as I could. It’s fully automatic and doesn’t require any interaction, unless you donate with Bitcoin, in which case a short email with a few words is enough.
Until now, I don’t remember it happening even once. Can you please point out how you came to this conclusion?
As I see it, a donation is a gift. I don’t want to force anyone to it, just want to give something back. That’s why, as I said, I don’t mind giving you the code for free. We can treat it as a donation of $0, the amount is not important. The fact that you like the program (otherwise why are you here?) is enough.
And if you’re into comparing it to a commercial license, I don’t see how it’s any different regarding forgetting about it or having to keep track. You need to remember that you paid for Office when you reinstall your computer and activate your license, right?
In any case, I’m open for suggestions, if you think I can do something better, please let me know.
Nothing at all. Only an idiot would have grievances against a software dev who distributes freely.
7TT is one my favorites and an initial install on new machines. Also just discovered you publish on SyMenu as well.
That’s just my view on various business models, including donations. To add, I might be more inclined to part with funds if it were called “beta license”, rather than donation.
A big proponent of property ownership. The code and compiled program is your creation. And I’m positively glad you’ve chosen to share it.
Or maybe call it “Early Access” to new features and platform support, partly experimental.
The nomenclature is secondary to the propriety of ownership.
It is a concept he understands as he doesn’t want to open-source the code. And that’s all good, it’s his property.
I would think he’s hoping Microsoft will buy the code from him. Cheaper than rewriting explorer.exe themselves.
But, look at what Microsoft did to the AppGet dev. They’ve modeled two applications from Chromium (VS Code). Hell, Windows itself came from Xerox. They got a history of taking open-source code and rebranding it.
I don’t blame him one bit for holding onto the code rather than open-sourcing.
Windows did NOT come from Xerox any more than the Mac came from Xerox. Xerox Parc was the source of the CONCEPTs behind Windows and the Mac’s OS, but both Apple and Microsoft wrote their own code. The idea of a windowing system, with a keyboard and the unique innovation, the mouse, were definitely invented by Xerox, but they considered it an educational curiosity and never developed it beyond the basics. Initially, I would have given the edge to Apple but they chose a VERY closed, proprietary model, which continues to this day.. Microsoft piggybacked off the IBM PC/AT where clone manufacturers exploded the market. Unlike Apple, Microsoft has embraced the Open Source community and is migrating key software, especially the .NET infrastructure to Open Source.
I completely agree with you on the terminology. Getting additional features to a program after making a payment is NOT a donation. It is a payment for the program and/or additional features. This is a big pet-peeve of mine. At least call it what it is. Thanks for your comment.
“I’m not a fan of donations”. Lol. Seriously? What about them exactly do you dislike? Sheesh.
Unfortunately stopped working on the Feature update to Windows 10, version 2004
Error: ( Could not load library 109 )
Same here,… updated today and it crashes app
On the same boat! doesn’t work at all. Using Windows 10 version 2004.
Don’t work in windows may 2020 update

Pay the $5 or whatever the donation amount is.
The beta “mostly” works, and he deserves something for listening to all of us complain 🙂
The beta works fine. Pay the money — it’s worth it.
The beta doesn’t work on my side. You should not disinform people like this
Doesn’t work how?
For me it’s working fine.
The only option that I am having issues with is the “virtual_desktop_order_fix” causing the taskbar to reboot when I reorder icons.
I’ve commented in a rush, sorry for my fast no so kind reply up there.
To be more precise, the beta works « Partially » as said in this website. Whenever 7+TT is starting on boot, everything works perfectly 5 – 30 minutes then it reboots explorer.exe non stop causing Fences (Another Software I use) to crash and I have no other options than shutting down 7+TT from task manager
Hmm I’m not seeing that.
Been working for a few weeks with 2004 and the beta without any problems.
Could also be a Fences problem…
Sadly it’s not. I tried once to block fences from starting on boot. And 7+TT continued to loop restart explorer.exe
Hi,
I’ve just released a new beta version, 5.8.0.5. Some options don’t work properly yet, but it shouldn’t crash the system unless I missed something. Please try it and let me know if you experience any problems. Thanks.
Now that 2004 is no longer an Insider Build can you make the beta available without a code?
Why is it so mandatory for an experimental support code? this is kinda pointless, I am using windows 10 version 2004
It works! Thanks for believing me when I said it wasn’t Fences. Everything works fine on my side now and 7tt isn’t restarting explorer.exe on its own now
Amen. The complainers are clueless … and cheap.
很不幸,微软2004版本不支持该程序。
Hello!
Is it possible to add an option to show the network connections in system tray? I mean the ones one can see in the folder “Сетевые подключения”? I mean that they would show the connection status in tray the same way as in that “Сетевые подключения” folder.
Hi,
If I understand correctly, here’s a program you can use. Note that I didn’t use it myself, but looks like it does what you’re after.
Hello.
The program is great.
But it does not work with the latest version of Windows.
In addition, after updating Windows antivirus Dr. The Web defines the program as a virus and removes it.

Hi Michael
I made a donation for beta 1.5.8.4 and satisfied with main features working, however is there a way or workaround to get back ” drag towards desktop ” in order to close open apps from taskbar ?
Thanks !
Thanks for last update , drag towards desktop is working fine !
For 5.8.0.5 beta still does not work “Don’t combine grouped buttons” on Win10 2004.
It fails with error “Could not load library (107)”
It is the only feature that I use this tool for.
With beta (v5.8.0.5) I don’t get error but “Don’t combine grouped buttons” option does not work at all 🙁
Please try the newly released beta version, 5.8.0.6.
Installed v5.8.0.7, but the Grouping options are ot working as previously they worked. The “Don’t combine grouped buttons” option in previous versions did not show any labels but now the Labels are always shown.
Is there any option that can make multiple windows show as dedicated buttons but hide the labels?
Please make sure that you’re using v5.8.0.7 and not v5.8.0.6. I believe that this exact issue should be fixed in the latest beta version, or in the latest non-beta version v5.9.
If you’re running v5.8.0.7, please tell me your explorer.exe version.
latest beta still doesn’t work for me on 2004. it is like most of all features turned off but still gives an error with library (107).
I’m excited about the stable update that will support 2004.
I’m not weary of donations, but this will be my first time using 7+TT, and I would like to donate after I use a program/app/ROM/etc.
Thanks for your hard work.
P.S. Is donation under $10 possible? Just curious
I’ve just released a new non-beta version with support for Windows 10 version 2004. Try it out 🙂
Yes, any amount is appreciated. Thank you for considering to support the project!
Thanks, I love this app!
Thank you, I wanted my browser windows to never group, your app made it possible. Fortunately, I am using windows 10 build less than 1909, and it worked for me without any issues at all.
One more last thing I am still looking for is a way to change the icons or colors of the individual browser windows. If I can get that fixed, it will make switching over different windows a bit easier as I wanted. I am mentioning this, wondering if something like this is already there is 7 Taskbar Tweaker and I don’t know about it.
Thank you
Hi,
7+ Taskbar Tweaker doesn’t provide a way to change windows’ icons, sorry.
No problem, I found a chrome plugin named “Tab Title Tweaker” which is at least allowing me to rename tabs/windows according to the URL based on some pattern-based rules. What I wanted I am able to get. Thank you so much.
Have you noticed that if you enable “Drag within/between groups using right mouse button” and you have a multi-row taskbar (say, two rows high), and you try to drag from the lower line to the higher line, the app button can get grouped with buttons from another app? I’ve managed to get one of my FF buttons stuck in a group with Windows File Explorer. That is, when I hover over any of those buttons, the FF thumbnail shows with the Explorer thumbnails.
I managed to get it unstuck.
This is probably an example of stuff I do that no one else ever does, but if you’re interested, I can send a screen snippet. After you’re finished wrestling with Win10 2004.
That’s by design, it happens for a single row taskbar too. That’s the “between” part of the “Drag within/between groups” option. If you don’t like that functionality, you can use the “Thumbnails: Drag to reorder” option instead, or use Taskbar Inspector to reorder items in a group by dragging it in the list.
To get a window to “unstuck”, you can right click on it in Taskbar Inspector and choose “Change Application ID: (restore)”.
Thanks for clearing that up! Glad I discovered a feature and not … that other thing. 🙂
скажите когда будет работать не группировка окон в новом обновлении виндовс?
Hey Michael,
Task bar tweaker doesnt run on my new win10 2004. I just donated, but i cannot connect with my new outlook account lol
Can you send it to this email?
Thanks for this nice programm <3
I am on Windows 10 Enterprise 2004 19041.329
The beta version v5.8.0.5 gives error even with the access code
Could not load library 109
Is this version of windows supported?
It should be supported. Can you please double check that the correct code was used? Also, please post the version of your explorer.exe file. The file can be found in the
C:\Windows
folder, and its version can be seen in file properties.Hi. Same here for me.
I’ve updated to v.5.8.0.6 (newest), but still it gives an error “Could not load library (109)”.
I am on Windows 10 Pro 19041.329 (still it is treated like an insider build).
Version of explorer.exe is 10.0.19041.329.
I hope this can help you fix the problem.
Thanks.
I have also Win 10 2004 build 19041.329 and the error “Could not load library (109)”
– Tested version 5.8.0.6. Both files in folder(EXE and DLL) has this version.
– On startup I have to click “Proceed”, because it says “An unsupported build of Windows 10 was detected, probably and insider build.”
– I don’t have insider build
– Note that “.329” part of version is changing with every Quality update (monthly)
5.8.0.7 beta – same problem (“Could not load library 109” error message and NON of the functions work)

Can you please check whether the new 7+ Taskbar Tweaker v5.9 works on your system? Thanks.
it’s working all fine Thank you very much.
Hey, I am a big fan of this software, but I have a suggestion.
I’m also a ubuntu gnome user and I really like the feature of switching desktops with the mouse wheel, when I point the cursor to the app drawer icon.
I think would be awesome if I could switch desktops like this, maybe pointing at task view button of the taskbar…
Regards.
you should make an issue in the SylphyHornEx GitHub! It’s a great virtual desktop tool.
Hi Lucas,
Thanks for the feedback. It was suggested before, and I had this and other virtual-desktop-related features in mind, but didn’t get to implementing them. One of the other things I considered, for example, is moving windows between virtual desktops with Taskbar Inspector. Maybe in one of the future versions.
Hi, a late follow-up: This functionality is now implemented in the Taskbar Scroll Actions Windhawk mod.
hi! i hope you’re doing well michael. love 7+ taskbar tweaker. can’t wait to use it again on v2004. the settings are blurry for me though 🙁
Hi,
The blurry settings should be solved in the latest beta version. Please see the comments here for more details.
How long does it takes…?? Greetz Roland

Hi,
Im testing:
•109 – Move the button group containing the active window to the left
•110 – Move the button group containing the active window to the right
It works, but
as a user that enabled the “Don’t group pinned items” feature, pinned items are used as QuickLaunch buttons with extra of JumpList, and therefore
it will be better that when “Don’t group pinned items” is enabled, 109/110 will skip the pinned items.
The pinned items shouldn’t move. Only the windows buttons they open should move.
Please consider to add:
in addition to:
•109 – Move the button group containing the active window to the left
•110 – Move the button group containing the active window to the right
will be:
•1XX – Move the active window button to the left
•1XX – Move the active window button to the right
(it means, Keyboard Shortcuts for RightClick dragging)
and in addition to:
•101 – Switch to the window which is located on the left to the active window on the taskbar
•102 – Switch to the window which is located on the right to the active window on the taskbar
will be:
•1XX – Switch to the button group is located on the left to the active window on the taskbar
•1XX – Switch to the button group is located on the right to the active window on the taskbar
(I’m using 101/102, and this will add “Long Jump”, to this functionality)
Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll consider them for future versions.
How can I increase the FONT size on the taskbar in Windows 10 1909? Thank you.
The tweaker doesn’t provide such an option. The only way I know of is increasing the system DPI, but it will make all system elements larger, not only the taskbar font.
There are a great many complaints about the small font of the task bar. Will you consider creating an option for this in the future? Thanks!
Not planned for now, but maybe one day in the future.
Just out of curiosity – why does the program break every new version of Windows? How hard is it to restore compatibility? (I’m a dev. You can get techy.)
Please see my blog post from 2014 which answers this question (under Why doesn’t the tweaker work with the update installed?) and is still relevant:
7+ Taskbar Tweaker and Windows 8.1 Update 1
Then you might have noticed that (most of) the code of 7+ Taskbar Tweaker is on GitHub.
There are various changes in various updates. Here’s one example. Other examples: the tray clock was re-worked in one of the updates, the People widget was added in another update, the Notifications button moved around in several updates, etc. At least some offsets to fields to internal classes change in every update. Sometimes variables change a type (from 4-byte integer to a 1-byte boolean, for example), and it might cause bugs which are very difficult to notice, identify and fix.
Good Day!
After new release of Windows 10 (2004) my 7+ tweker stoped work correctly. I found your beta version and i want to use all the features, but i canot donate because it showes me, that the link for donation does not exist. please advise.
Any plans on enabling pinning items on second monitor?
It was suggested a couple of times before. Unfortunately, no plans to look at it in the near future, sorry.
Avira is flagging v 5.9 as a Trojan:
06/27/2020,10:58:09.556 [INFO] [DETECTION] file contains ‘TR/Crypt.XPACK.Gen’
So does VirusTotal:
https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/e090a1939f6e389201b0df3667e0ec2185f7fdedd97eb37dd8dfa1934cf0d5ce/detection
I’ve submitted 7tt_setup.exe to Avira as “false positive detection” and now it doesn’t think that 7tt_setup.exe has a virus anymore.
Cool – I wasn’t sure if I should worry or not. Thanks!
False positives are unfortunately common for new versions of 7+ Taskbar Tweaker. Please see the FAQ here and this blog post.
Hello,
Can you please add to 7+TT this taskbar feature. It is open source.
https://github.com/rikka0w0/Taskbar-Context-Menu-Tweaker/releases
Thank you
With all the things the Taskbar Tweaker does, is there any way you can make the Windows 10 Show Desktop bar/button on the far right, just beyond the time, wider? I have dual monitors and it is so narrow that it is hard to precisely click on Show Desktop.
Thank you
Hi Harold
Right click the program’s tray icon
Click Advanced Options
Scroll down to show_desktop_button_size and double-click on the Data column and change the value, I think 15 is good, but play around with it to see what you like yourself.
Have a nice day 🙂
Thanks Brian. It worked!
While the width is larger, it would be nice if the color was slightly different, for show desktop like in Windows 7. Now there is a thin grey line. To both the right and left of the thin grey line the taskbar is black. With Windows 7 the right of the thin grey line would be slightly different in color.
2004 breaks this app. And virus total thinks it’s a virus.
2004 doesn’t “break this app”. The developer explained the this software doesn’t support the latest build of Windows. They also explained that support is coming soon.
You ran virus total on an unsigned open-source application and you are surprised that it flagged it as an unknown application? Ever hear of a false-positive? Newsflash: the sky is blue! Clearly you have no idea what you’re doing.
I know he said it didn’t support latest builds. I was just notifying him that 2004 issue just in case he didn’t know
Windows 10 Version 2004 support was added in 7+ Taskbar Tweaker v5.9.
Please see my reply here.
incompatibility warning popup on 20H2, but work fine
Hey, thank you very much for your new version!
hello guys thank you for the latest update, love this software and glad to see now that 2004 is supported.
One issue though is that when i tried to update, windows security blocked it as a potential virus, please look into that… I disabled my real-time protection as I trust you as a developer but not everyone will or knows how to do this to get past windows blocking updates so worth your time sorting that out.
Thanks again.
Hi Dean,
Thank you for the feedback. I’m aware of that, but unfortunately that’s not much that I can do. Usually the security warning stops appearing after some time one the new version gains some popularity.
First of all, I just want to say thanks for this fantastic app, and thanks for keeping up with all the latest windows versions. Just wanted to let you know that the app appears to be broken on the latest insider preview, windows build 20161. 7+TT says that it “could not load library (5)”.
I know that this is a very recent windows build and I don’t expect this app to work properly on it right away, just wanted to let you know.
Thanks for letting me know. Please try the latest beta version, 5.9.0.4.
Yup, that version works. Thanks for the fast response!
(I’m sorry to use machine-translated English)
I used the version I just released to run on windows build 20161, but I found that the, Toggle mute system volume feature didn’t work in Mouse Button Control. I set it to volumeicon | mclick, and the value is 5,and it worked in the old version.
Thanks for letting me know. Should be fixed in v5.9.0.5 beta.
Thanks for the fast response! This function is very important to me.
Is it possible to implement a tweak to the taskbar height? I usuallly use a double height (two rows of icons), but windows 10 forgets the height and resets it to default height (to 1 row) when rebooting/booting. Sometimes (not often) Windows remembers the height after a reboot, but on next reboot its forgotten again.
thank you for your good work. taskbar tweaker is one standard tool for my windows 10
A great feature that Windows has overlooked and is very needful would be the ability to have the system tray show up on more than one display. Currently if you search for a solution to this you find only people misunderstanding the problem and demonstrating how to move the system tray from one display to another. For many use cases though it would be highly valuable to have it displayed on multiple screens simultaneously like in the instances I have seen people asking for this when playing full screen games, but also for instances like mine where I switch inputs to one of my monitors between Windows and Linux.
Hi RamMicHaeL
Mate is it possible to add yet another functionality to 7+ TT?
I was thinking of being able to assign my middle mouse wheel button to do something useful. I was thinking of making the time/date values copyable, so that we can click on the clock and instantly copy the time/date stamp into memory.
And the way the time/date stamp is formatted and pasted into any document is determined by the settings inside 7+ TT. The pasting is of course done via the normal right-click Windows functionality.
So for example I currently have need for this format in a certain document: ” 22/7/2020 ~ 7:40 PM ” < And I would be able to set that up and have it work until I changed the formatting/paste settings. (Ideally a user would be able to setup several different preset settings and switch between them as needed, i.e. for different documents and input scenarios.)
Is this doable or not?
Hi Richard,
It’s not possible with the tweaker currently. I might add such a feature one day. For now, it sounds like a perfect task for Textify 🙂
Doesn’t work on Windows 20150 even with donation code.
The Dev Channel build that is currently supported is 20161. It’s time consuming enough to try and maintain support for the latest version, supporting all the ever changing builds is out of scope. Having said that, 7+ Taskbar Tweaker v5.9.0.1 provided support for build 20152, it might work for you. Let me know if you want it.
Hi,
firstly thanks for this great app. Is it possible to group shortcuts which are pinned to the taskbar even if they’re not running?
Hi Ed,
No, 7+ Taskbar Tweaker doesn’t provide such functionality.
A completely new 20H2 build (Beta Channel) has been released.
it seems a fairly big update. good luck, thanks.
The incompatibility is fixed in the newly released beta version, 7+ Taskbar Tweaker v5.9.0.6.

Hi there. Do you have any updates planned?
And kudos for the great work. Love this app.
The incompatibility is fixed in the newly released beta version, 7+ Taskbar Tweaker v5.9.0.6.
That did it! Did you just release this version? I tried yesterday to no avail. Today I uninstalled the beta version and installed again.
Thank you!
Can confirm like aubai ,doesn’t work anymore under last 19042.421.( 20h2 )
Seems to be a step down as I ‘ve read since yet beta 5.9.1 was supposed to support 19042 ?

SentinelOne detects this software as malware and reports as malicious activity.
The identification is most probably a false positive, unless your file is infected, e.g. if you downloaded it on a third party website. As said on the FAQ above, the tweaker’s behavior, such as injection into a system process (Explorer), can be considered as malicious/suspicious by some antivirus programs. I suggest you to contact SentinelOne, ask them about the detection, and ask to whitelist the tweaker.
