Is this a RAR password unlocker? Or something else?
From the WinRAR help:
I think it converts read-only rar archives to read-write mode.
All of this software are viruses.
Check them with VIRUS TOTAL.
DONT USE SOFT
Send the program to your antivirus support team, ask them.
It doesn’t work for me.
I can’t ceck any flags and overall (archive lock attribute).
My O.S. is Windows XP SP3 and rar v5.0
RAR v5.0 is not supported.
Excuse me don’t you have a REAL RAR password unlocker?
Not that pass generators.
Nope, I don’t.
Gracias, me sirvio para cuando creo un SFX y me equivoco, puedo desbloquear y corregir, y luego volver a bloquear 🙂
Can you add unattended mode? Automatic unlock w/o showing GUI. Now I can pass archive name as a parameter, but press Unlock & close program required.
Done. You can call it like this to toggle the lock flag:
rar_unlocker.exe archive.rar -toggle
Super! Works fine! Thanx! Can you add separate keys too (-lock and -unlock) if it isnt difficult?
I’ll look at it. Be aware that you’re asking me to revive a program from 2006 here!
This tools not supported RAR5 format. I test this tools for unlock RAR5 archive, test is failure – tool’s can’t recognize RAR5 header if supported only old RAR 2.90 format.
Yes, the RAR5 archive format is quite different, and this little program was written long before it existed.
Any plans on adding support for unlocking RAR5 archives or?
Not in the near future.
The flags in RAR5 are different than in RAR4, so it will require a complete redesign / rewrite.
Thnx for the reply/info
You should scan your PC, this download is heavily infected.
Check it at https://www.virustotal.com

These are false positives. It might be hard to believe, as there are so many detections (13/46), and if you re-check the file, you can see that there are even more detections (21/57). The reason is that antivirus companies see that the file is being detected by other products, and start detecting the file themselves, without really checking whether it’s infected.
Thanks for letting me know about it. I reported it to most companies, and I assure you that the number of detections will drop significantly in a week or so.
As promised, the number dropped from 21 to 4 (not well known) antiviruses:
just an fyi, I started using Kaspersky a few months ago. I’ve not got a single false positive on them yet, and they don’t ‘block and/or delete’ the file. ( unless you set it to.)
So far I’m thrilled as one of it’s best feature is the proactive system resource attention. They don’t drag my system down like every other one I’ve used.
and all yours files/programs passed flying colors.
Very good tool, but please update it to support WinRAR 5.x archivers.
Best regards, Oleg.
this was an excellent tool for WinRAR 4.x and I truly admire your genius for it. It seems you still have not released a version for WinRAR 5.x yet, and we are eagerly waiting for it.
I am not sure if this helps, but on a very brief testing on a temp file I created, this kind of worked:
Searched for hex value:
B5 30 73 04
Replaced with hex value:
CF 90 73 00
but then I am not an expert on Olly or Hex manipulations so I couldn’t test this extensively and I could not workout the correct codes.
If you could please rework on this product for WinRAR 5.x, it will be extremely helpful for all of us here.
Most eagerly anticipating your new release.
There’s no need for Olly or for reverse engineering here, the format specification is public:
The RAR5 format is a little bit more complicated than the RAR4 format, as it uses variable sized integers, so I cannot port RAR Unlocker with a 5-minute change. Also, the flags are different, so the GUI needs to be reworked.
I might have RAR Unlocker updated for RAR5 one day, but it’s not a priority at this time. If you are into programming, I can publish the source code for you to port it, but note that it’s quite poorly written (the tool was written in 2006!).
I have just published a new version, which supports RAR 5.0.
thank you sooo much … it feels wonderful to see an update of this program ..
truly appreciate your work..
I’m not on Windows, but have to deal with locked rar archives occasionally. Would you willing to release the source code? Seems much more efficient to unlock vs de-archive and re-archive.
Done, I’ve added a link in the post above. Note that I’m using WTL and Windows API functions for file mapping, you’ll have to change these. It would be nice if you’ll publish the modified code.
Thank you! Not sure how long it’ll take me, but I’ve cloned the rep and will share anything I come up with.
Does RAR-Unlocker support multiple files to unlock at the same time?
I find it uncomfortable to be able to unlock one file at once only.
Also, I would be interested to be able to run RAR-Unlocker against a complete directory to check for all .rar files inside, if they have any of the attributes activated. So output a list only (no unlocking) to view the attributes. Output could be a txt or csv file?
No, it doesn’t. You can use it from the command line, and write a script to go over multiple files, if that works for you.
RAR Unlocker is open source, so pull requests are welcome 🙂
Thank you for making this RAR unlocking application available. It’s been quite beneficial to me, and I hope it will be beneficial to others as well.
Nullsoft / 7-zip Unlocker
Do you have any idea how to remove write protection from EXE files created with Nullsoft / 7-Zip?
