7+ Taskbar Tweaker
7+ Taskbar Tweaker allows you to configure various aspects of the Windows taskbar.
Most of the configuration options it provides can’t be tweaked using the taskbar properties or the registry.
The tweaker is designed for Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10.

FAQ
Q: Which registry keys does 7+ Taskbar Tweaker modify? I don't need extra processes in my system.
A: The only registry keys the tweaker modifies are its own settings. There are no registry keys for the options it provides. The tweaker does that by injecting a DLL to explorer, hooking/subclassing/some other methods of the dark side.
As for extra processes, the tweaker is a native program, and is very lightweight. It shouldn’t slow down your system, and uses an extremely small amount of memory. Also, you can hide the tray icon if you want.
In case you want to remove the tweaker's settings from the registry, look for them here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\7 Taskbar Tweaker
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
(7 Taskbar Tweaker
value)
P.S. if you're a programmer, you might want to take a look at the 7+ Taskbar Tweaking Library.
Q: My antivirus complains about 7+ Taskbar Tweaker.
A: It's a false positive. I guarantee that the tweaker binaries (and any other files on this site, unless specifically noted) are 100% clean.
Also remember that the tweaker injects into explorer and modifies its memory, which is indeed suspicious.
Q: Can I Group/Combine/Label only some of the items on the taskbar?
A: Yes, use Taskbar Inspector.
Q: May I use 7+ Taskbar Tweaker in a commercial environment?
A: Yes, feel free to use it wherever you want.
Q: Where is the portable version?
A: When installing the tweaker, choose the Portable type of install, as shown on the image below.
The portable version will be extracted to the selected folder.
Note: If the tweaker is already installed on your computer, the option won't be visible. You can launch the setup with the /portable
command line switch to force a portable installation.
Q: I want to report a bug/suggest a feature! What is the best way to do it?
A: Post it on the UserEcho page.
Q: I want to translate 7+ Taskbar Tweaker to my language.
A: The archive below contains the files needed to be translated.
Please read readme.txt before proceeding.

Is it possible that in Win10 to add the option to show standard right click menu when clicking on taskbar and the icons near the clock, and not the default black one?
Thank you.
Where will you get “standard” menu? What you see is standard now :). And also default and only.
No, it’s not standard, default and “only”. The black menu is a feature of the “dark theme” which came (optionally) with the Anniversary Update, and may have been activated by default when the Anniversary Update was installed, but can be deactivated. When choosing the light instead of dark theme in your settings, you get the white menu back.
By standard I mean the menu like the one when you right click on a button on taskbar for an opened program (and having “Standard window menu” = ON).
Any news for adding “standard window menu” on Win 10 1607?
Thank you
It’s not planned for 7+ Taskbar Tweaker at this time.
Meanwhile, you might want to check the following solution:
http://www.askvg.com/tip-get-rid-of-dark-context-menu-in-windows-10-taskbar/
have tried to load this and have already upgraded to latest windows 10
it’s not working, showing error message ‘cannot access library error 107’
can you help please
Please try the beta version.
Thanks, but Windows and Norton say that the beta version is unsafe, so will not download.
It probably is a false positive. You might want to contact the antivirus companies and verify this.
Works for me. Same issue before, beta version fixed it. I use it to prevent combining of the groups when showing only tiles, which works.
But Windows 10 also prevented me from running it (well, you have the option to run it under more options) and Defender has just flared up now for the setup file (reports a trojan).
Windows Defender see a trojan in the beta setup (Win32/Varpes)… Can you please look into that?
It probably is a false positive. Please contact Microsoft to verify this.
I’ve just been ‘Windowed’ again. After a Windows 10 update yesterday, Taskbar Tweaker now fails at startup. Worked fine before. I see this error: “7+ Taskbar Tweaker: Could not load library (109)”.
I searched and found that 109 means Tweaker doesn’t recognize some app on my taskbar. Well, what’s there is:
Thunderbird, Firefox, Chrome, File Explorer, Excel, and Word. Again, it worked just fine before the update.
I’m running Tweaker version 5.1 (which I was before the ‘update’). I’ve uninstalled/re-installed, rebooted.
Any ideas out there??? Thx
The error might be caused by the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. Please try the beta version of the tweaker.
I’m using Windows 10. Windows Defender says I should remove the beta file (7tt_setup_beta.exe), because it contains the trojan “Win32/Varpes.M!cl”.
What’s about this? Just a heuristic problem? Has anyone else had similar experiences with other anti-virus-tools?
Btw, I’m using Win10 Pro 64bit build 1607.
Thanks!
I downloaded 7tt_setup_beta.exe, but Windows Defender detected Trojan: Win32/Varpes.M!cl and removed the downloaded file. Could you please make a check?
Hello I have this trojan warning too. Is there any information what causes this? I suppose a false alarm, but in these malware contaminated times it´s better to double check such warnings…
Greetings Frank
I applied the latest Windows Update.
I downloaded 7tt_setup_beta.exe again.
It’s okay now.
How’s that?
I installed 7 + Taskbar Tweaker.
Later (last night), however, Windows Defender detected Trojan: Win32/Varpes.M!cl again and removed the downloaded file (installer).
This happened after my installation of 7 + Taskbar Tweaker. Therefore, 7 + Taskbar Tweaker is working okay.
Is this Windows Defender’s problem?
I assume that it’s a false positive. You can contact Microsoft for a clarification.
Muchas gracias por el beta para windows 10. Se elimino el problema.
Dear RaMMicHaeL, please tell me, is there a software option to when you click on combined item with the left button, minimized active window, and if the group has no active Windows, then it would open some of them? Then the superbar could work as with a classic panel. The choice between open Windows can be done via the pop-up thumbnails.
http://s16.radikal.ru/i191/1609/6a/109244d11e11.png
Currently, there’s no such option.
After updating to 5.2, left-clicking on a combined taskbar item does not open the thumbnail preview (or in my case the list of windows, since I have thumbnails disabled). Using Windows 7.
Should be fixed in v5.2.1, please try it out.
On all my desktops (all Windows 7), I have a hidden task bar that pops up when I move the mouse pointer to the border where the task bar is located (or where it is hidden, to be precise; which is the left side on my desktops). However, when I use an application in fullscreen mode, I often accidentally trigger the task bar to pop up while fiddling around near that border of the screen (usually the application windows have tool bars and stuff there).
Could you add a tweak to the tweaker so that one could define a smaller trigger zone for task bar pop-ups? Thinking of something like “Position of trigger zone: [X] pixels from bottom or left border”; “Length of the trigger zone: [Z] pixels”). Ideally, that trigger zone would be visually indicated by a line or something …
Or do you have suggestions for other software/tweaks to accomplish that?
Hi, now that we have volumeicon option for Mouse Button Control could we also get this to allow us to “Open Volume Mixer” (first right click open in windows 7), or maybe to run an executable (in this case sndvol.exe)?
Try following the guide in the answer here.
Awesome, cheers :). Doesn’t get sndvol where I want it though, for now I’m running an autohotkey script (below) to get it where I want, but it’s a bit ham fisted – anyone have a better idea?
Run, sndvol.exe
SysGet, MonitorWorkArea, MonitorWorkArea
WinWait, Volume Mixer
WinGetPos, WinX, WinY, WinWidth, WinHeight, Volume Mixer
SetX := MonitorWorkAreaRight – WinWidth – 25
SetY := 50
WinMove, Volume Mixer,, %SetX%, %SetY%
WinActivate, Volume Mixer
You can set the location of the window with a command line switch:
http://superuser.com/a/622332
For the mixer, use
-r
instead of-f
.NVM This answers my question: http://superuser.com/questions/440751/windows-7-open-the-volume-control-popup-from-the-command-prompt/440752
Quote:
“sndvol.exe allows you to specify window location by adding coordinates after -f switch:
sndvol.exe -f 26214900
This example creates window at x=500 y=400
coordinates = y * 65536 + x, where x and y - signed integers"
The -f switch mentioned is to open the master volume slider (default behaviour). I found a switch was needed to open the volume mixer with coords, ‘-a’ did the trick for me, however I’ve no idea if -a does anything or if there’s repercussions.
Tried to reinstall, the installer is now frozen
At what stage does it freeze?
After updating to version 5.2.1 the program doesn’t work, it closes immediately after opening.
I have Windows 7 64 bits.
Perhaps it’s a problem with your antivirus. With the release of v5.2.1, the tweaker had some false positive detections, most of which should be fixed now.
You should contact Symantec, it marked the latest version as suspicous and deletes it. It also marked this website as suspicious
Should be fixed now, thanks.

Just tried to update v5.2 to v5.2.1 and Kaspersky Internet Security 2016 deleted the setup file saying it would contain “UDS:DangerousObject.Multi.Generic”. False positive most likely, but annoying…
Should be fixed now. VirusTotal page.
The newest version v5.2.1 seems to be infected with “PDM:Trojan.Win32.Bazon.a” according to Kaspersky Antivirus 2016. The previous version works fine.

Hi there,
I came across your excellent taskbar utility and wondered if you could answer a quick question for me…
I’ve been using a taskbar clock replacement for years – it’s called “1st Clock” and is really good http://www.greenparrots.com/ and until the Windows 10 Anniversary update it worked fine.
Now it seems Microsoft have changed things so there isn’t enough space for 1st Clock to fit into….
Try it on any Windows PC that isn’t running the Windows 10 Anniversary Update and see – don’t forget to make sure 1st Clock is set to “replace the taskbar clock”
Do you think there’s any chance this can be overridden to what it used to be before the Windows 10 Anniversary Update?
Regards Steve
Hi Steve,
I don’t know how the 1st Clock program works. Why not contact the developer about it?
There’s also the T-Clock program which you might want to check out.
Thanks for the update. It’s good to have the large icons again. I didn’t realize how much I missed this program. Keep up the great work.
Hi. What are the large icons?!
Hey, Omar. Large taskbar icons. If you’d like to enable them:
-Right click on 7+ TT system tray icon
-Select advanced options, scroll down to where it says “w10_large_icons”
-Double click on the zero and change it to 1
-Hit apply (or close) and you should be good to go
To the developers:
Malware/Trojan detected by Kaspersky total security 2017 for the latest version.
Why instead of telling the users it’s a “false positive” – just remove the offending code or put the application’s source @ github, that way we can all see if there’s malware or not.
I wouldn’t install something Kaspersky tells its harmful.

Hey thanks for the update 5.2.1. That was a quick fix. The middle-button-close shortcut was my favorite.

WARNING EVERYONE: Kaspersky 2016 flags the latest version (5.2.1) as a TROJAN do NOT install! Wait for the creator to investigate this situation and explain what’s going on before updating!
That “trojan” is just a false positive. I have the latest version, and scanned it with my Norton? There’s nothing wrong with it at all. No trojans, no malware, no nothing.
Yes, I’m quite aware that this could be a false positive. However, there is but a single, minor bugfix between version 5.2.1 and 5.2, so why take on the unknown risk of updating? If the new version is indeed clean, the developer will inform about what is going on.

Thanks, RaMMicHaeL. All OK now.
There wasn’t a problem for me. Just some feedback for you.
Best regards.
This website seems to have been flagged by whatever Asus uses on their routers as a malware source, it totally blocks the download of the .exe file.
Auto update kept failing and manual download from the link above results in a junk file.
Downloaded through proxy and scanned with MS Defender, nothing found and it installed fine, anyway here’s a VirusTotal report on the 5.2.1 installer:

I already informed Microsoft to investigate this problem.
I believe this is a false positive.
May I suggest the author to check with Microsoft as well?
Microsoft contact: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/security/portal/submission/submit.aspx
I got a reply from Microsoft stating that it was not malware.

Thank you so much !
Windows 10 Anniversary Update added new great feature: notification badges, which shows a badge on taskbar button of an application with a number of new messages/notifications, as well as on top of notifications icon at tray.
Unfortunately these badges are automatically disabled when taskbar is set to small buttons. I could understand the reason, however the main notification icon at tray does not change it’s size at all, there is no reason for it not be able display the badge!
It would be awesome if 7TT could find a way provide us with badges even on small buttons or at least on main notification icon.
Thank you.
Hi bro.. Thank you so much for the excellent software.. need one option.. Hide main window when it start.. I could not figure it on 5.1
Thanks with Regards
You can use the
-hidewnd
command line switch.Hello, this is incredible software.
Can you please add an option for Windows 8.1: 24×24 sized icons from Win 10?
You, my friend, are AWESOME! I have just successfully used this on whatever version of Windows my university uses, and it safely and quickly modified the settings for grouping taskbar windows so I can use the computer more easily. Whoever you are, you ROCK!
Thanks, for this. It’s excellent and I’m extremely grateful that you give it for free.
One request, if I may…? I keep my “program files” on a separate drive to my OS. Having programs install, automatically, to C:\program files rather detracts from the idea of the thing being portable, don’t you think?
Easy enough to move things, of course. But, would it not be better if the installer asked for a destination?
Not a complaint. Far from it. Just one of those “Eh?” things…
I’m not sure what you mean. The installer asks for a destination.

Since Windows 10 auto-update yesterday, on windows startup I get an error box: “7+ Taskbar Tweaker: Could not load library (1004)”, and it seems not to be working. Suggestions?
Please make sure that you’re using the latest version of the tweaker. Also, note that insider builds of Windows 10 are not supported.
If you’re still having issues, let me know.
Could you add the feature to move the Windows 10 clock to its previous place, right to the clock there is action center icon, but why not have it to the left side of the clock like it has been since Windows 7
Hi! Your software is the best, couldn’t do without it!
Could you add an option to do this? I display my taskbar at the top of the screen and I always use two rows, locked like that. But now, the first row is at the topmost, and the second row below it, just above the windows. The problem is that I mostly use the first row, and now I have to jump over the 2nd row quickly to reach the Play/Skip commands of Windows Media Player in the list when hovering the button (I tweaked the timings: too slow), or else, I’ll get a 2nd row button list. Could you make the 1st row the closest to the windows (like in normal bottom position) and so on (without changing the left to right order of the buttons on each row)?
Hi,
Sounds like a difficult feature to implement. It’s unlikely to be implemented in 7+ Taskbar Tweaker in the near future, sorry.
Right. And what if you would just invert everything altogether, the order of the buttons on each row too? The first button would be on the lowest row (at the top of the screen), on the right handside, and the last one would be on the highest row, to the left.
Thanks for your reply.
So basically, creating new items at the beginning of the list instead of the end? It should be possible.
I suggest you to create a new ticket on UserEcho, and I’ll try to look at it in the future.
Is there any possibility to make the Win10 taskbar to obey the themes as other apps do?
I downloaded the current version on Windows 10 (up-to-date), but the option to “Hide labels” on taskbar does not work. I just want the “Never combine, Hide labels” option to work.
Thank you.
See the tutorial here. Let me know if you need more help.
Yes, tried it already. No luck.
https://imgur.com/a/trBre
It seems like you didn’t set “Combine taskbar buttons” to “Always combine, hide labels” in the taskbar properties.
Thank you so much! 🙂
A few days ago my computer updated to the Anniversary Update and so now I came to check for the updated 7TT and I grabbed it and get an error on installation. First time I ran it I had the option to Reinstall/Uninstall. I chose Reinstall since I would be overwriting the previous. Thats when I got the error. Now when I try to run it I dont get the option to Reinstall/Uninstall. It just proceeds to the location then when I hit next the error msg pops up.
This is the error:
http://i.imgur.com/UqwOd8i.png
I do have appropriate permissions and have even created the folder again and taken ownership to be sure.
Might be something to note too that when I uninstalled the previous one, the files didnt disappear like they should have. I chose to leave the settings box unchecked too during the uninstall.
Ive also even tried installing the beta thats out but that gives the same problem. Ive also restarted since uninstalling as well.
You have installed 7+ Taskbar Tweaker in the Program Files folder. Thus, you have to run the installer as administrator.
Left click on empty space.
In Advanced Options -> Mouse Button Control,
I add new “emptyspace|lclick” to name and data is 2 value, but “left click on empty space” does not work. Can you recheck.
Thank you!
Works on my PC. Please make sure that the taskbar is not unlocked.
Oh yes! Thanks you very much
I was wondering if all the settings that has been tweaked will be restored when you uninstall the program, and if not, is there a method to have the settings restored to the way they were before?
Yes, the modifications take place only while 7+ Taskbar Tweaker is running.
Can this restore the “recently used” files when you right click on some of the pinned taskbar icons? Things like Word, Media Players and such. It was removed in Anniversary Update and I found it to be quite useful.
Thanks,
Mark
Ignore me, found the option now. Didn’t realise they were called “Jump Lists” and its in the settings, off by default for some reason.
Suggestion for the ‘list mode’ display of the Explorer windows:
It displays either the name of the folder or the full path (depending on Explorer’s settings).
Is it possible to imagine a limited path mode, where we could chose to display the last 1/2/3/4 (customisable) elements in the path?
It would help me to browse in the list, since I order my projects in domain/year/project name/sub-folder structure.
Thanks
Hi! Just wanted to say that your Taskbar tweaker is the best thing since sliced bread! Lightweight, millions of options, good documentation. Gonna donate later!
I use a lot of the tweaks and especially the function to split the same appid to two apps on the taskbar, looking at you Matlab 😀
I have a vertical taskbar. One thing that would be nice to implement is to be able to disable the “day of the week” that shows up when the taskbar is in standard width. I have to activate the option to rezise the taskbar width and make it very thin to make the day of the week go away and just leave time and date stacked on eachother.
Another suggestion would be to implement a possibility to reduce the vertical padding between the “action center” icon and the time/date. And reduce the vertical padding between the time/date and the notification icons.
Thank you so so much for a great program!
Hi,
Thank you for the feedback.
Currently, 7+ Taskbar Tweaker doesn’t have tray clock customization options, except for adding the seconds. You might want to try the T-Clock program, which was designed just for that.
I’ve got several suggestions about the new notifications icon. Controlling the padding is one of them. I might get to it one day…
Hello!
I am just in the midst of installing and was wondering if 7tt allows someone on windows 10 to make two rows of pinned items? Similar to how icons (ie date, time) will make 2 or 3 rows as you stretch the task bar up?
My current understanding is that they don’t make two rows automatically because they simply “expand” where they are, and once a row fills up then they move to the second row, etc. Does 7tt allow some sort of loop around this and/or is it relatively easy to do?
Thanks ahead of time,
Kristopher.
Hi,
No, 7+ Taskbar Tweaker doesn’t have an option to achieve that.
Hello!
After a new update from windows, I get a “Cannot load librarie (107)” error. The program works but one things seems not to: “Drag within/between groups using right mouse button”.
As it’s the main reason I installed this amazing app, it is a bit sad!
I hope you will be able to have this fixed 🙂
Thank you so much for this app, this simple option only save me some time everyday!
Hi,
Please make sure that you’re using the latest version of the tweaker, 5.2.1.
Wow fast reply!! All is good, it’s working now!
Thank you 🙂
This help me with my problem too, thank you!
Hello, I notice you implemented the “virtual_desktop_order_fix” option. I use a 3rd party program “DexPot” for virtual desktops, because it has more functionality than the default one that comes with Windows 10. This bug still exists with DexPot (the programs in the Taskbar get re-arranged when switching between my Desktops in DexPot).
Can you please try it out and see if you can do a compatibility fix with this? Thanks so much!
Programs such as Dexpot implement virtual desktops manually, by hiding and re-showing the relevant windows. 7+ Taskbar Tweaker cannot be “made compatible” with this. Dexpot should be fixed instead.
Thanks for the quick reply, I should post this bug over in their forums then.
I’m wondering if it’s possible to un-group one program out of a group if they are all combined. If I hover over them, I can right click and drag them out, but if I have that option off (I have it off because then I can’t do a mouse shortcut I made to double click to restore all windows in a group) then I don’t know how to un-group a certain program from the task bar. I tried dragging them from the thumbnail previews, but that didn’t work. Thank you!
