7+ Taskbar Tweaker allows you to configure various aspects of the Windows taskbar.
Most of the configuration options it provides can’t be tweaked using the taskbar properties or the registry.
The tweaker is designed for Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10.

Windows 11 Support Status
- 7+ Taskbar Tweaker doesn’t support the Windows 11 taskbar, and probably never will. See this blog post for more details.
- Some of the tweaks are available in Windows 11 as Windhawk mods. See here for the list of mods, and vote for missing mods that you’d like to see implemented. Read more about Windhawk here.
- 7+ Taskbar Tweaker works on Windows 11 version 23H2 and older with the old taskbar which can be restored with third party tools. See this blog post for more details.

FAQ
Q: Which registry keys does 7+ Taskbar Tweaker modify? I don't need extra processes in my system.
A: The only registry keys the tweaker modifies are its own settings. There are no registry keys for the options it provides. The tweaker does that by injecting a DLL to explorer, hooking/subclassing/some other methods of the dark side.
As for extra processes, the tweaker is a native program, and is very lightweight. It shouldn’t slow down your system, and uses an extremely small amount of memory. Also, you can hide the tray icon if you want.
In case you want to remove the tweaker's settings from the registry, look for them here:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run (7 Taskbar Tweaker value)

Q: My antivirus complains about 7+ Taskbar Tweaker.
A: It's a false positive. I guarantee that the tweaker binaries (and any other files on this site, unless specifically noted) are 100% clean.
Also remember that the tweaker injects into explorer and modifies its memory, which is indeed suspicious.
Q: Can I Group/Combine/Label only some of the items on the taskbar?
A: Yes, use Taskbar Inspector.
Q: May I use 7+ Taskbar Tweaker in a commercial environment?
A: Yes, feel free to use it wherever you want.
Q: Where is the portable version?
A: When installing the tweaker, choose the Portable type of install, as shown on the image below.
The portable version will be extracted to the selected folder.
Note: If the tweaker is already installed on your computer, the option won't be visible. You can launch the setup with the /portable command line switch to force a portable installation.

first of all: awesome tool! I couldn’t live without it.
I’ve set “Hovering” to “List” in the “Taskbar items” panel and it works nicely. However, I often have several Explorer windows open with very long paths. The full path often gets truncated and this makes it hard to identify the correct window. Is there any change to increase the width of the list?

I know that the thumbnails’ size can be modified. Perhaps these settings also work for the lists.

thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, this does not affect the width of the list, only the thumbnails. Also the maximum size for the Thumbnail seems to be 500px, bigger values do not have any effect.
I’ve found the following possible DWORDS in the Taskband key:

Since the Windows build 1511, 7++ Taskbar Tweaker is no longer fixing the “Never combine, HIDE labels” problem when the taskbar is on the left: the “…” labels appear again.

Есть идея по расширению функционала. Как известно, по клавише Win+<номер окна> можно очень удобно переключаться между открытыми окнами. Однако сложно быстро подсчитывать порядковый номер окна, когда их более пяти.
Будет очень приятно увидеть в твикере возможность нумерования окон, например, цифрой поверх иконки программы. Или же изменением названия программы, что-то вроде: “1:Total Commander”.

Да, это известное ограничение. Классическая тема требует другой подход, и я не планирую добавлять для нее поддержку.
Hello, I have just discovered your brilliant product and am trying to get to know it. I am now using it on the new 1511 version of Windows 10. I like to use the small task bar icons so I lose the date. I have used your program to show seconds. I know that I can change the parameter of tray_clock_fix_width to shrink the space but I would actually like to widen it to show the date alongside. I don’t want to increase the width of the task bar which brings the date back again. Is there any way that I can do this please?

As far as I understand, you’re trying to use small icons, and want to see the date at the same time, right?
This kind of customization is not available in 7+ Taskbar Tweaker. You might want to try out T-Clock, which is designed for taskbar clock customization.
Thanks for making 7+ taskbar tweaker! I am currently using it to hide the start button in windows 10 to make it look like windows 8. I wanted to join you all to help you improve these programs, but I just know batch programmming. Will that do?
Many thanks for your helpful reply. I can report that T-Clock Redux seems to do the job in Windows 10 and allows the date and time to show alongside in the reduced width small icon taskbar. It complements 7+ Taskbar Tweaker very nicely.

The explorer.exe process crashes when “hide taskbars” setting is on and the size of the taskbar is less than the original size (i’m using it in vertical mode and with a reduced width)

Nice Product! Look like though, even in Beta, when I select the option, “Hide the Start Button” it is instead hiding all of the icons on the taskbar instead of the Start button.

May I require some feature? I think the “Advanced options” dialog should have a taskbar icon, which is not the case currently.
1) Without this taskbar icon, the dialog appears to be hard to reach. I often have to do Alt+Tab to find it. Also, I tend to forget I had opened this dialog and I am surprised to see it back hours later!
2) The missing of this icon is very surprising, and inconsistent with all the other applications.

Is there any chance for an update to remove even MORE spacing between pinned icons?
I love the app but am trying to get icons right next to each other. Probably not possible without some visual style modification since the extra space is from the little selector bars when you mouse over.
Doesn’t hurt to ask though 🙂 Love the App. Microsoft should buy your program and implement it into their OS, seriously.
That might be possible, but it would require a different approach than the one I’m using now. I’m not aware of a straightforward way to control the gap size.

Hey, I just use 7+ Taskbar Tweaker so I can get smaller taskbar on side, I was wondering if there is settings that will autoclose 7+ Tweaker after it resizes the taskbar because I have noticed that even if you close the 7+ Tweaker taskbar is in small size.

No, there’s no such command. Also, I assume that there are situations where the size would reset if 7+ Taskbar Tweaker is not running, for example when the resolution is changed.
I can’t get 7+TT to downsize the taskbar in Win 10 (10240). I have changed the width setting in Advanced Options and tried it with both 5.0 and 5.0.0.4 but nothing happens. Is there some further action I have to take in addition to the Advanced Options change?

I just tried reverting value to 0, then back to 1, and still no change in the left Taskbar width.
What am I doing wrong?
Maybe that’s obvious, but just to make sure: did you unlock and resize the taskbar?
Well, unlocking should have been obvious, but I hadn’t done it. Did it just now and went through the back to 0 then to 1 bit and nothing happened.
Is there something I need to do to trigger resizing the taskbar after making the no_width_limit 1?

Hello, I installed tweaker and it’s very helpful, but I have one problem, when I use “snipping tool” program (it’s pinned on taskbar) and I close it – it unpins it till next restart, how to fix this?

I’m not familiar with such problem, sorry. I don’t think that 7+ Taskbar Tweaker causes it, but you can try to disable it and find out.

Hi. I’ve always put the taskbar on the left side and set it to never combine, and this automatically hides the label, which is nice.
But in Windows 10, label for some apps “leaks” and shows up the first letter with ellipsis even with the taskbar at smallest width, which is super stupid.
Tried my luck with 7+ Taskbar Tweaker’s never combine & hide labels, but the leaking labels are still present. Could you take a look at that and probably include a fix? Thank you!

That’s one of the issues that “the first major update” of Windows 10 introduced. More details here. The linked post also has a beta version that should solve the issue, please try it.

I cannot install the latest update because of Windows Smartscreen which is blocking the setup file from being executed.

The Smart Screen usually provides a button to run the program despite the warning.

Исправьте пожалуйста глюк, если включить опцию list_reverse_order и открыть много окон одного приложения, они сгрупируются, и потом нажать на группу, и закрыть одно окно из группы, эксплорер крашится, я проверял на 33 копиях запущенного блокнота, возможно с 20 копиями будет тоже самое.

Еще пара вопросов:
1) Скажите, нельзя ли сделать, чтобы 7plus-Taskbar-Numberer писал количество открытых копий в группе, не на иконке, а в тексте? Речь про режим работы с –v4
2) Нельзя ли добавить такой функционал в 7+ Taskbar Tweaker ? Что бы не плодить 2 процесса. Эта функция очень нужная, для возвращения функционала Windows XP.
3) Еще вопрос, нельзя ли сделать минималистическую версию Tweakerа, чтобы была только dll и ini файл с настройками, редактируем файл настроек и кладем dll в папку с explorer.exe, и эксплорер сам подхватывает dll, и в процессах Tweakerа при этом не будет?

Мне удобнее чтобы все было так, как есть. Не вижу смысла тратить время ради того, чтобы было на один процесс меньше. Они и так очень легковесные.
Исправил в 7+ Taskbar Numberer v8.2.
4) Если запустить Tweaker и Numberer и убить процесс explorer.exe и запустить процесс explorer.exe, то Tweaker работает корректно, а Numberer перестает работать, повторный запуск Numbererа не помогает, приходится убивать процесс Numbererа и запускать его повторно.
Я готов заплатить за добавление функции в 7+ Taskbar Tweaker, чтобы писался текст в группу с количеством запущенных копий. И я думаю многие меня поддержат.
Hi, Is it possible to improve “Don’t group pinned items” feature?
When you enabling this feature while apps are opened, the pinned items don’t move automatically to their natural place (towards the Start Button). So you get the pinned items mixed with the groups buttons.
It is important especially since sometimes when there is a crash and the Tweaker restarts, the buttons are mixed again.
4) Протестировал, ситуацию когда работает Tweaker и Numberer, и перезапускается эксплорер, твикер всегда работает, а Numberer, даже версия 8.2, раз через раз работает, приходится убивать процесс Numberera и запускать занова.
С версией 8.2 не получилось воспроизвести. Если есть четкие этапы, по которым можно воспроизвести проблему, я попробую.
просто запускаем Tweaker и Numberer и раз 5 запускаем и убиваем эксплорер, баг вылезет.
Попытка номер два: версия 8.3 🙂

И количество окон в группе надо писать текстом в названии, а не на иконке, так как, в классической теме рисование на иконке не работает, и текст на иконке усложняет восприятие иконки, особенно когда окон больше десяти.
Love the app, can I ask for a feature? Would it be possible to add an option to restore the show desktop in the taskbar XP style, on the left. There is a way to add it manually, i’ve done it on my work computer but it takes about 15 mins to do and I dont have the patience to do on all the windows 7 machine I use. Thanks!

When cycling between taskbar buttons with mouse wheel, it would be great to have a setting to not “loop” (ie. start/end reached doesn’t jump to other end).
I really miss this feature from my WinXP+Taskix era.

“Don’t Group” setting seems to be broken in latest Windows 10 Build 11082.
Currently, Windows 10 builds newer than 10586 are not supported.
