Windhawk mod: Virtual Desktop Preserve Taskbar Order
Back in 2016, I wrote about the the problem of virtual desktops and the order of taskbar items, and I implemented a fix which can be enabled via the virtual_desktop_order_fix advanced option of 7+ Taskbar Tweaker. Seven years later, Windows 11 still has the same problem.
7+ Taskbar Tweaker doesn’t support the new Windows 11 taskbar, but some of the functionality is ported as Windhawk mods. Today, I ported the virtual_desktop_order_fix advanced option as well.
Here’s the Windhawk mod that implements the fix for Windows 11:

I use the old Windows 10 taskbar in Windows 11 (ExplorerPatcher, StartAllBack). So I still use 7+ Taskbar Tweaker (which is awesome, thank you so much!). After another monthly Windows update, 7+ Taskbar Tweaker stopped working and while I was waiting for the update, I decided to try Windhawk.
And it turned out that Windhawk for the old Windows 10 taskbar does everything I need and can replace 7+ Taskbar Tweaker. Everything except for one thing: Virtual Desktop Preserve Taskbar Order. Unfortunately, it only works for the new Windows 11 taskbar.
Can we hope please that Windhawk will include this feature for the old Windows 10 taskbar?
I thought about adding support for Windows 10, but a large part of the mod uses functionality only available in Windows 11, and so I’d have to copy more parts from 7+ Taskbar Tweaker to the mod, and maintain both. I may do it in the future if there’s demand, but for now you can just keep using 7+ Taskbar Tweaker along with Windhawk.
