    Hello RaMMicHaeL,

I’m using your great tool “7 Taskbar Tweaker” for over 3 month now. Everythings works fine till today. Actually my antivirus (Avira AntiVir Premium) reports your tool as malware. Another tool (Threatfire) does the same.

Can I furthermore trust your tool?

    Kind Regards
    Daniel

    • Hi Daniel,

I’ve checked it out on VirusTotal (link), and it seems like you are right.
I, meanwhile, can guarantee that the tweaker binaries (and any other files on this site, unless specifically noted) are 100% clean.
Also, TR/Crypt.XPACK.Gen3 means a general detect, no something specific. Avira probably does not like the fact that the tweaker injects into explorer, which is something regular programs don’t usually do.
I’ll send them a letter and ask them to whitelist the tweaker.

      Cheers.

        Hi Leah,

I got the same thing with AVG 2011. You might want to ask them to whitelist you too.

Love the app BTW. Every time I middle-click an app in the taskbar to close it, I think of donating a couple of bucks for your effort. Let me buy you a beer (or coffee or whatever). Do you have a paypal account for donations?

        Cheers,
        Ric

        Hi,

I use the free version of Avira and it never reported your “7 Taskbar Tweaker” tool as a threat or a virus.

        Regards,
        Amer.

  3. Ram,

Help! Taskbar Tweaker is a great addition to Win 7 functionality. I have a problem though. About half of the time, the TT app works fine. But the other half of the time, the popup window sometimes freezes and won’t go away. It goes out of view when I click on one of the open apps in the list it goes to the background but the TT window doesn’t actually close (and doesn’t update when I open new apps or files in open apps. Any ideas? I can’t find any process to kill and my only fix when this happens is to reboot.

  4. nakam says:

Great taskbar tweaker! I have one question: Would it be able to add custom hotkeys for closing programs? For example I’d like ctrl+left click to close programs as I occasionally use the middle click as it works as default.

  7. MainTrane says:

How exactly did you go about doing, this, making 7TT wait for Explorer injection, and what exactly does injection of Explorer mean?

There are some other applications launching at startup, on my apparently too fast computer, that can give errors the way 7TT used to.

    Thanks
    MainTrane

  8. MainTrane says:

doh! I meant initialize, not injection. How/what does Explorer initialize and how do you monitor it to make sure that it has completed?

  9. D4rK.F0rcE says:

    Hey Rammichael,

first of all, thanks for such an useful application. However, I have one specific suggestion:

How about adding an option, so that one need to double-click an taskbar icon in order to open it (what I mean is the first start of an taskbar application). Since I have about 15 icons in my taskbar, sometimes I mistakenly click a wrong icon which then starts an application I did not want to open. If it would only be possible to open an taskbar application via double-click, this problem would vanish.

I hope I am not the only one desiring this feature. regards

  10. Ludo Matico says:

    Hi!
    I’m Ludo, from Argentina.
In first place, thank you very much for this great customization tool! It’s just great.
I’ve searched this since Windows 7 appears, but I couldn’t find anything like that.

I’ve have an idea, but it seems impossible to do with a tweaking tool, please take a look at it here: http://ludomatico.deviantart.com/art/Windows-8-Taskbar-Concept-201760737?q=gallery%3Aludomatico%2F25792352&qo=10

I would like to tweak the size of the pinned icons so it can be viewed at 24 x 24 pixels (Medium size), but Windows 7 only shows it Big (32 px) or Small (16px)

I’m fascinated that you made a tweaker to reduce the space between pinned icons, but, I just want to know if you can add a setting to resize the icons to 24 x 24 px as well.

    Please let me know,

    Thank you!!

    • I don’t think it’s a good idea. 24×24 is not a very standard resolution for icons, and many applications lacks these. Most have 16×16, 32×32, 48×48, and maybe 256×256. For that reason, most of the 24×24 icons would be just a resize of the 48×48 icons, which doesn’t look too good.

Win7 classic view + small icons + never combine taskbar items.
Do left mouse click on a taskbar item and keeping the mouse pressed move it up from the taskbar => Task list appear.
Please add a setting to 7TT to turn this off.
    Thank you.

    Where I can find it?

  15. mork says:

    Hi,
there is an error in the newest version 2.1.6 (Win 7, 64-bit): When the taskbar is set to autohide, it cannot only be revealed when the mouse hits it in an area without icons. In the areas with application icons it just stays hidden, but the previews are shown. So somehow the new version blocks the revealing of the taskbar.

The right person to ask is Marshall (you can PM him here). I’m not too much involved in CE LF2, Marshall just asked me to lock the .dat files files, I did. It was a long time ago, though, so perhaps he won’t mind to tell you about the secret moves.

    Feature Request

Could you implement some sort of “Always on Top”?

    Like PowerMenu: http://www.abstractpath.com/powermenu

But that one does not work for x64 I noticed. I had a program that worked also when you just right clicked on the caption / title bar of a program. That is the perfect solution.

Ahh. I found one that does work with x64, which uses context menu only: http://abdussamad.com/archives/108-Keeping-a-window-always-on-top.html

What are your ideas / possibilities? Regards.

  25. Joe says:

    Hi RaMMicHaeL,

Thanks for 7 Taskbar Tweaker, great utility!

    I am running 7TT Portable on Win 7 x64.

I have 14 open Win Explorer windows, grouped. When I drag an item to change the order in Taskbar Inspector, the order also is changed in my actual taskbar group. But when I use Sort Group Items in Taskbar Inspector, the sort occurs in the Inspector, but my taskbar group does not reflect the sort, which is what I expect (and want). And then once I do the Sort, any future drag in Taskbar Inspector is not reflected in my actual taskbar group.

    Please clarify. Thanks.

Any chance you could add a ‘disable left click jumplists’? Its the worst feature of Win7 imo. And being thats its just a replication for the right click list I see no sue for it on deskptop pc. Ive had to slow down my mouse use over it significantly. Its a bane and makes me sorely miss WinXP with whatever bugs it had.

Hey, this tweak is AWESOME! Best in Windows 7. 🙂
I was just wondering if there is a way to sort of make the possibility for a user to add like a “separator” line so that windows can be organized on the taskbar at will.

Maybe this is impossible but just wondering.

Thanks for all your hard work.

Hi. Would it be possible to add the ability to change the font type and color in Windows 8 taskbar tabs? The font is currently WHITE and I’d love to be able to change it to black and check out different font styles as well. Could you add these features?

Hi, RaMMicHaeL! Thank You for greate plugin. I’m have some problems with inline code – this patch for JMP it isn’t processed by the plugin.
    MOV BYTE PTR SS:[450F8D],0E9
    MOV BYTE PTR SS:[450F8E],5A
    MOV BYTE PTR SS:[450F8F],61
    MOV BYTE PTR SS:[450F90],2F
    MOV BYTE PTR SS:[450F91],0
Please fix it if it possible, thanks.

    • Hi.

You’re referring to Multiline Ultimate Assembler, right?
The code above works fine for me, what error do you get?

      • casanova says:

Not error, but real bytes of the jmp at offset 450F8D is E95A612F00 after patching. Not problem with plugin with recalculating real jump’s like jmp 458987, but for instructions mov byte not recalculate pathed bytes for real jmp. For example:
        MOV BYTE PTR SS:[450F8D],0E9
        MOV BYTE PTR SS:[450F8E],5A
MOV BYTE PTR SS:[450F8F],24 – recalculated
MOV BYTE PTR SS:[450F90],2D – recalculated
        MOV BYTE PTR SS:[450F91],0

    Hi
For 7TT, is it possible to create custom combined groups? As in, you drag any taskbar item over another and it’ll combine, even if they are different applications. Similar to Opera and its behaviour with tabs. Also to have combined groups with labels shown by default.

    Great program, thanks!

    • Hi,

For 7TT, is it possible to create custom combined groups?

Yes. Try the “Drag within/between groups using right mouse button” option.

Also to have combined groups with labels shown by default.

Choose the “Never Combine” option from taskbar properties, then check “Combine grouped buttons” in the tweaker.

  39. Marcin says:

    Hello,
I found your app very usefull. The one thing is missing in Win8 for me is lack of some commands accessible from context menu: “minimize to tray”, “always on top”, “resize window”, “priority”, “transparency in %” just like in PowerMenu for WinXP. Maybe you can add this functionality to taskbar tweaker or as a separete tool?
    Best

  40. Manoj Prasad says:

One issue I would like you to look at, in Windows 7, is:

If the task bar is on the left and I widen the task bar, let’s say two or three inches. The pinned items are lined up going down. This takes up a lot of space on the task bar. In Windows XP, the pinned items were next to each other.

    Thanks,
    Moe

  43. Den says:

Hello, Just download 7+ Taskbar Tweaker, do i need run it every time windows start? I ask because when i reboot and open for example couple of explorer.exe it still show it in one group, for re enable it i need to run Tweaker and click Group by Application ID (because it still on Don’t group) and again click Don’t group, after this it works again. Is it way it should work or this is something with my system?

    • By default, 7+ Taskbar Tweaker sets itself to run at startup.
You can verify this by opening the Settings dialog and looking at the “Run at startup” checkbox. It should be checked.

for re enable it i need to run Tweaker and click Group by Application ID (because it still on Don’t group) and again click Don’t group

That sounds wrong. Is the issue specific to the “Don’t group” option?

      • Den says:

That sounds wrong. Is the issue specific to the “Don’t group” option? –

Yes. Actually i tried to follow your instructions on habrahabr to disassemble taskbar with ollydbg but i did it on Windows XP, i was interested to fix one bug, that hide “quick launch” bar every time windows restart, after couple of tries i abandon this idea, what i was able to achieve is that when you click “Show quick launch” in “Task Bar And Start menu Properties” it show additional “quick launch” bar with same icons, the more you click on “show quick launch” the more bars you get. After all i write program that run on start up and click on it using sendMessage(bla, bm_click, bala, bla); it works from time to time. But recently i saw that Windows 7 has not buggy quick launch and decided that i need to migrate on this OS, but this annoying group of similar icons is spoil all good fillings. Yes. But! All my experiments with olly lead me to one interesting conclusion, that after i press – “save changes to binary” they saves to next reboot, after it no my changes was in explorer.exe any more. So maybe the problem is that system override explorer each time?

        • after i press – “save changes to binary” they saves to next reboot, after it no my changes was in explorer.exe any more.

Windows might restore the original file, but that shouldn’t be an issue with 7+ Taskbar Tweaker, as it patches the code in memory, without touching the file system.

I don’t know why you’re experiencing the issue, but you are the first to report it. I’m afraid I can’t help unless you find a way to reproduce it.

Will run Taskbar Tweaker on start of system and press radiobutton from my program not big deal. Thanks for interesting program anyway!

Hi, I just discovered Taskbar Tweaker and it’s awesome! Thank you, you killed several of my Win8 annoyances in one fell swoop. 🙂

Feature idea – possible to reduce the padding between icons in the notification area? Back in the WinXP days they were nice and compact with about 1px of padding between them. In Win7/8 it’s more like 8px, half the width of the icons themselves. This is a lot of wasted space and if possible would be a really nice feature, I think. 🙂

Anyway, thanks again for the great program!
