Unchecky v0.4
I’m happy to announce that Unchecky v0.4 is now available!
Here is what’s new in this version:
Support for browser offers
This feature was requested since the first version of Unchecky was released, and I’ve been planning to implement it for a long time. Now, Unchecky is finally able to combat offers in the browser. Just like for native installers, the checkbox is automatically unchecked, and a warning is displayed when a checkbox with an offer is clicked.
Warning tooltips
When you click on a button which causes an installation of a potentially unwanted program, Unchecky shows a warning message box. But until now, you could not know whether a button causes an installation of a potentially unwanted program before clicking on it. Unchecky v0.4 provides a new option, which allows to display a tooltip while hovering on such a button. That way, you can know which buttons to avoid even before clicking on them!
The new option can be enabled in the Settings page of Unchecky.
An option to clear the activity log
General fixes and improvements, and support for more installers
As in every other version, support for new installers was added. Also, some minor bugs were fixed.
I have unchecky 0.4.1 on computer, “not by choice” .
it may have come with Firefox, unchecky will not let
me download anything. and I cant delete it from my
computer.
When i try, my computer reboots and unchecky is still
there. I have windows XP.
I need a Solution to this Problem.

Hi Gene,
Sorry to hear that you’re having issues with Unchecky.
You say that you’re unable to uninstall it. Please try the cleaner tool which can be found here:

Hi,
Please refer to the FAQ here.
Hi,
a good idea. Especially the one on adobe was very annoying and made my parents install them by mistake before Unchecky had those support.
But as an IT guy I would like to know how you realized this on a technical view. You need access to the DOM and adobe is using TLS too. I don’t hope that this is done using bad reputation technics.
Hi,
Thanks for the feedback.
As for Adobe, Unchecky injects a Javascript snippet which unchecks the checkbox when it detects the Adobe website. Is it a bad-reputation technique? It’s up to you to decide 🙂
