Unchecky has been acquired by Reason Software Company
I’m happy to announce that Unchecky has been acquired by Reason Software Company Inc., the company behind Should I remove it? and herdProtect, and has been integrated into the new Reason security product, Reason Core Security.
The Reason Company has a vision similar to Unchecky, which aims to protect users from potentially unwanted programs and offers. Reason Core Security is a comprehensive anti-malware security suite, designed to keep the users safe from malware, as well as to prevent accidental installations of unwanted programs.
For existing Unchecky users, nothing will change: if you don’t need the power of Reason Core Security, you can continue to use Unchecky, which is not abandoned – it will continue to be developed as a standalone program as well as a Reason Core Security component.
I would like to thank everybody who supported Unchecky during its development, and I’m sure that it will become a part of a great product, which will provide a comprehensive solution to the problem of malware and potentially unwanted programs.
Congratulations, RaMMicHaeL! (From a longtime happy 7TT user, and fellow developer!)
Good news.
Happy for you, Stamimail
Congrats!
Who will continue development of Unchecky? Reason Software or yourself?
Thanks!
I’ll continue developing it, with support from Reason Software.
I was a little concerned about the acquisition so I’m glad to learn this detail! So Unchecky shouldn’t go downhill since you’re still its primary developer.
I have never used Unchecky but I will archive the latest free version (0.3.7.2)- when a corporation buys a free product it usually cripples it and eventually destroys it.
I understand what you’re saying (and have a couple of examples in mind), but I’m not sure that the Reason company is a good example for this kind of “corporation”. Have you looked at the company’s products?
I was speaking in general. I do hope that the company who acquired Unchecky will be an exception since in my opinion products like Unchecky deserve to live on (I have been a victim of my negligence and rashness while installing software on several occasions and in one of these cases (QIP messenger) the system was so severely damaged that the only solution was re-installing of OS). I have learned to be extremely vigilant on installations (VirusTotal, turning off the internet, cancelling anything) yet fatal mistakes are always at a distance of a single click. I have used another of your products- 7+ Taskbar Tweaker and I would like to congratulate and thank you for your excellent work- 7+ Taskbar Tweaker is exactly to my liking- clean, portable, customizable and free. All the best to you and all your projects!
yup !!
Gratz!!
I have Unchecky and love it. I recommend it to my clients after fixing their bloated laptops. Keep up the good work and hopefully Unchecky stays as a separate software.
That’s really great news. It’s a great product and it’s fantastic that a company sees value in it as much as its users do.
Congratulations! Reassuring to see good things happening to good people.
I actually came across your fantastic work because I was looking for a solution to the silly Windows 7 right click on the toolbar – 7TT is the perfect solution!
Just a quick request if you would: where can I download Unlclicky 0.3.7.2 from?
Thank you!
Thanks!
It’s not available online, but I can upload it for you if necessary. May I wonder why do you need it? What’s wrong with the latest version?
Hi RaMMicHaeL,
Thanks for the response. Nothing wrong with it at all. In fact I have it installed on this current machine I am typing on. I just like to have more than one version of my most frequented applications. If you can upload it that would be fantastic. If not then that is not a problem and congratulations again!
Here you go.
Thank you sir!
Hello.I’d like to update the Chinese tramslation of Unckecky. Please contact me through email.
Thank you for your offer. I have sent you an email.
Congratulations on Unchecky’s acquisition!
On your good word, I went ahead and checked-out (pardon the pun) Reason Core Security. My thinking was that if the company has a vested interest in a well-meaning and excellent product like Unchecky, the company must be legitimate and interested in similarly clean, effective software.
Color me impressed. The interface is slick, intuitive, and minimalist, and the software doesn’t seem overly invasive or pestering. For anyone else who wants to give Reason Core Security a try, the only annoyances I’ve found are a) that the scheduled scan (daily is the default) causes the application’s GUI to spring-up (when I’d prefer that it scan silently and display the GUI only if it finds something noteworthy), and b) the GUI is low-res and fuzzy on my 4K monitor (like many Windows apps, including many of Microsoft’s own, such as those loaded via the snap-in framework).
Thanks for putting me onto it! I’ll see how the trial goes and consider upgrading to the non-free version if I find it adds significant value to my layered approach. At a minimum, I’ll keep it for the Unchecky functionality.
Again, congrats!
