7+ Taskbar Tweaker for Windows 10 Anniversary Update: early alpha version
Microsoft has announced that the second update of Windows 10, the Anniversary Update, is going to be available on August 2. While the update is not available yet, there are rumors that the update will be based on Windows 10 build 14393, which is available for the participants of the Windows Insider program.
Meanwhile, I have updated 7+ Taskbar Tweaker to be compatible with Windows 10 build 14390. There’s an alpha version available, which is functional, but not complete: some of the options still don’t work properly with the new build. Also, the alpha version might work for Windows 10 build 14393, but it wasn’t tested. Those of you who have donated can get the alpha version here (the link was removed).
Alpha version changelog
- v5.1.9.2 (August 6): Implemented the
Display seconds on the tray clock
option, fixed theHide the Start button
option for 64-bit. - v5.1.9.3 (August 13): Fixed the
Combine grouped buttons
option, fixed labels showing up for grouped buttons with theDon't combine grouped buttons
option. - v5.1.9.4 (August 19): Improved the combining options, implemented the
tray_icons_padding
advanced option for Windows 10, other fixes.
Update (September 1): The first public beta version is available! Get it here.
Update (September 9): Windows 10 Anniversary Update is fully supported by 7+ Taskbar Tweaker.

Thank you for offering this alpha version! After the latest Windows update, I was having issues with the taskbar not wanting to hide behind certain things and after hunting for a solution, I came across your program. It worked like a charm, definitely worth a donation!
In Win 10, I am running 7+ Taskbar Tweaker in compatibility mode with Win 8. It appears to be working.

These are false positives. I’ve sent a letter to the companies, hopefully the detection will be removed soon.
Michael I have been using your Taskbar Tweaker (TT) for many years and have always found it to be extremely useful! THANK YOU!
I have even sent you 2-3 donations over the years in hopes that you will continue to keep TT going. But one thing has always bothered me about your website.
I generally review all my installed software every 3 months to be sure I have the most recent updates. But when I visit the TT page, it is extremely difficult to determine if I have the latest update. Other than the download link, there is nothing to clearly indicate what version is the newest.
On the TT page, at the very top of the page, could you please add a simple note that says the most recent version number and beside that, add a download link for the newest version.
That way I don’t need to search further or read “stuff” that I don’t have time to read.
And thanks again for a great app! Keep up the wonderful work you do!
Bill
Hi Bill,
Thank you for the feedback and for your support.
There are two ways to quickly determine the latest version number without downloading the tweaker:
Michael,
THANKS for the response!
I was already aware of the “changelog” and always go to that (though sometimes even that is hard to find). And I appreciate the “hover over…”. But had you not mentioned it, I would never have thought of that. Call me lazy??? Neither really satisfies me as the “ultimate solution”.
Finding and going to the changelog is “more work” than I really want to do. 🙂 And it seems to me that if you can have a “hover” option at that link, it would not be all that difficult to add the latest version number right beside the link rather than “hidden” in a “hover over”. That way, lazy people like me wouldn’t even have to hover! 🙂
If you really want to get fancy, I have seen a number of sites that have a link on their app’s “About…” dialog. If you click the link, the app sends the user’s current installed version number to the web page and a message pops up saying “You have the most recent update” or “You do not have the most recent update” and opens the download page for the most recent version.
Now for a lazy person like me, that is an absolute miracle! But then, like me, you may find that to be more work than you want to do! 🙂
Regardless, keep up the great work you do. It really is much appreciated!
Be well,
Bill
OK, I’ve added a version number.
The tweaker doesn’t have that, but it has an update checking functionality: it checks for updates every 24 hours, and shows a notification when a new version is available.
ATTENTION. 2/3 from all Internetsecurity has found in 7+ Taskbar Tweaker a heavy bad Trojan-Dropper. I’m a programmer and that is true. Stop this bad tool.
Down to 3/57.
Hello,
My version of Windows 10 is :
Version : 1607
Build : 14393.67
I just have made a donation of $10.
Could you send me a link so i could dowload the right version of 7+ Taskbar Tweaker, because the one i have downloaded does’nt work, missing library 107.
Regards
I need it free. Pliiiiz. Microsoft’s just a piece of shit. :crying: :'(
Me too 🙁
run 7+ Taskbar Tweaker in compatibility mode for Windows 7 or 8
How to make it ?
Seriously, RaMMicHaeL provides this amazing tool for free. If you can’t do without it, donate to support him!
No support means you can just wait for it…
I’m sorry, I’m a girl of 15 years old and my parents aren’t geek players.. 🙁
I’ve sent you an email, check it out.
Thank you very much, so pretty ! ♥
Great, so a 15-year-old girl gets it for free while he lets others pay for it?
Hey, is there a minimum donation for getting into this Alpha? I simply can’t stand the default taskbar and am quite poor at the moment…
Thanks for considering to support the project. There’s no minimum value, any amount is appreciated.
your dropbox account generates too much traffic and has been disabled 🙁
There’s a new link, you can get it here.
You know, I really, really love this program, but I’m uncomfortable with the seemingly inevitable risk of Microsoft just making it non-functional whenever it feels like. I just updated and now my previous version of Taskbar Tweaker no longer works, and I’m very glad that you’re working on the fix.
Anyway, I guess my main concern is that, at some point, when you no longer have the time or the resources to update this program, I’m not sure what I’ll do when Microsoft releases an update that ruins it.
Pleaseeeeeeee make it free, please please T_T I don’t have legal age for have a credit card o something like that 🙁 I’m just a poor girl u.u
Please contact me via email.
I’m also a poor underaged girl. 🙁
How it is possible to install/try your extension on Windows 10 with anniversary update? If you have planned a working release, when it will be available? Thx for your support!
Is there an estimate on when this will be completed for us poor scrubs?
Hello, mostly happy donor here. Can you please incorporate this into the next version for Windows 10 Anniversary Edition?
https://github.com/opusman/ClockPositionRighteousifier/tree/master/source/ClockPositionRighteousifier
(Action center repositioning.)
I hope what I’m asking isn’t too off-the-wall. I mean, it seems to fit well with the current feature set of 7+ Taskbar Tweaker, and I’ve done the legwork and found a working implementation for you :).
WOW! Wonderful and nice option (I was looking for that!); if you could also allow to decide the pixels width of the clock area it would be amazing! Thanks again, and a big ciao from Italy!
So my computer updated last night…
I’m happy to donate because this program has saved me from some serious frustration over the past year, but my PayPal account isn’t being recognized when I try to access it from your donation site (it’s saying I don’t have funds, which isn’t true). Can I initiate the payment from my PayPal dashboard by sending it to you using your email? If so, what email would I use? Thanks in advance!
On a semi-related note, I don’t use PayPal and don’t intend on using it. Is there another method I can use to donate?
Currently, you can donate via PayPal or via Bitcoin.
Sorry, I skipped right over the bitcoin message on the donation page. I will do that.
Thanks!
I also want to donate, but can’t use Paypal. I would highly appreciate if you could find another way of collecting donations..
Yes, you can find my email here:

I want to donate u,but i dont have Paypal, because my card dont support dollar…..crying…
Alpha version it’s working good on windows 10 anniversary.
Donation made 😉
Keep developing
Can we expect final stable version this month? I ask because alpha works good for me 🙂 Thank you.
You should develop the software for the latest build? Join the insider program and develop the software for the latest build in that and then won’t you always be ahead of the production versions and support them. Or does each build require a new compile of the code?
Every new build (or almost every build) requires fixups. Having the tweaker updated for a new build is very time consuming, as I need to do a thorough testing for all of the feature, identify the features that became broken, and investigate how to fix them. Therefore, I prefer to do this process only for stable builds.
I like and want this tool, but my bankcard not support the paypal, most bankcard not support the paypal in China.:(
Please email me, and we’ll find a solution.
What is your email?i can not open the google or gmail.
Do it for free please, I do not have a credit card , because our country is difficult to make a donation , I really like this program but I can not use it .
Contact me via email.
@RaMMicHaeL in our coutry we are not allowed to make money transactions can you please mail me the early alpha, i find your tool very useful that i can’t find comfort in windows without it.
Contact me via email.
I cant a donation。because im in China!
Hi RaMMicHaeL,
I like your tool very much, and have been using it since Windows 7, as it has a feature that I need desperately. This feature is the “don’t group taskbar items”.
Would it be possible to publish a very simple version of your tool that only has the “grouping features”? It’d take a lot less testing to release the simplified version after major Windows 10 updates, which would reduce the wait time for users.
As I’m a software developer myself, I’d be happy to contribute, but of course it might take some time while I ramp up on Windows internals and your codebase. 🙂 Let me know if you need some help!
Cheers,
Panther
I would expect a software developer to understand why this wouldn’t improve the speed of releases.
Um, maybe I’m missing something here, but I’d say that less functionality means fewer things need to be figured out how they changed between major Windows 10 releases, fewer things need to be tested, and someone to help means less of RaMMicHaeL’s free time is needed for all of these.
Could you please elaborate why you think this isn’t true?
A simple “grouping features only” version would mean then maintaining two versions of the product. He would not only have to test the full product but also test (and maintain) the simple version.
Two versions of the product: true. However, those two versions may be able to use the exact same code, in which case once the simple version works, those features will automatically be good in the full version too. Of course it could get more complicated if the different features are intertwined, not orthogonal, but I have no idea how the code is organized, or how much the different features have to “coordinate” what changes they make to the internal Windows structures to make everything work this nicely. If it’s too complicated, it might not be feasible to create a simple version of course.
Hi Panther,
I have just published a public beta version, try it out.
Hi RaMMicHaeL,
I’ve just installed the beta and it works perfectly. 🙂 Thank you so much.
Cheers,
Panther
P.S.: I’d still be happy to help in the future if you’d like.
Where is the beta version posted? My computer updated today (Windows 10), and I’m getting a library error. Thank you!
Just below the final version:
http://rammichael.com/7-taskbar-tweaker#download
Awesome, working perfectly well on build 14393.105 !
Thank you very much !!!
Thank you very much for the program,
Sadly I’m getting error code 107, can’t load library.
Tried re-installing with admin rights.
Made no difference.
Is there anything else I could try?
Please try the beta version of the tweaker.
Found the problem.
360security (antivirus) saw it as a virus.
Added taskbar-tweaker to the white list.
Problem solved.
Everything works perfectly.
A big thank you for this essential program. 🙂
[Bug] Running the public beta here – after starting up the program the on-screen keyboard button located in the notification area grows in size and becomes cut off. To see this go to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Turn system icons on or off > Touch keyboard
That’s a known bug, which is a side effect of the
w10_large_icons
advanced option. The issue happens in all Windows 10 versions, it’s not something that was introduced in the Anniversary Update.
I might look at fixing it, but it’s not a priority.
[Feature Request] Would it be possible to include an advanced option to move the Action Center icon to the left of the clock? This would include correcting the padding so it doesn’t look strange. See this working project which does this, but doesn’t correct the padding: https://github.com/opusman/ClockPositionRighteousifier
Maybe in one of the future versions.
Hello!
I use your program only for ‘disable_topmost’ with option 2. that way, when I press the ‘win’ key, the taskbar appears. However, whith the new update (had it come in late), on the beta version, it doesn’t work properly. The start menu covers the program icons that I have on the taskbar, so I can click the icons on the taskbar only if I press ‘win’ twice, one to make the taskbar appear, and once to make the start menu dissappear.
That’s all. I wanted to report it, in case someone else didn’t do it already, and in case you weren’t aware of this little bug. Thank you for patiently working on this taskbar extension.
Be blessed!
Hi Manu,
This looks like it would not be trivial to fix, and I don’t plan to investigate this in the near future. I can suggest another solution: set up another keyboard shortcut in the system, which will just bring the taskbar forward, without showing the start menu.
You can use NirCmd and the following command:
nircmd.exe win activate class "Shell_TrayWnd"
Creating a keyboard shortcut for the command: create a shotcut of NirCmd with the command line above and use the following tutorial:
http://ccm.net/faq/10635-windows-7-create-a-custom-keyboard-shortcut-for-your-application
Thank you very much for your reply!
Setting a keyboard shortcut doesn’t really cut it for me. Instead of that, I can just press win key twice… What I thought of is that maybe it’s possible to arrange the items on the taskbar from the right to the left instead of from the left to the right. That way, since I have enough space on my taskbar, it won’t cover the items.
How about that? Is it doable?
Thanks for taking your time to suggest that though!
Have a nice day!
That doesn’t sound much simpler, sorry.
Thank you for the alpha release.
Please make it possible for the clock to go back to the far right where it belongs!
I,too, would like the clock in the old position (ClockPositionRighteousifier does not work properly in my case).
Furthermore, if possibile, eliminate all the padding aroud the notification icon (what a waste of space, and a horrible thing to see!).
If option “hovering = [Nothing]” and
option “Left click on combined item = [default]” – then nothing happens when i click on combined items.
option “Left click on combined item = [Open last window if inactive…]” – then last window opens, but thumbnails preview don’t show.
Version 5.2. Windows 10.
In prev versions all works.
Settings: http://i.imgur.com/kf3gmZt.png
Should be fixed in v5.2.1, please try it out.
Seems to be working.
But with option [Open last window if inactive…]:
* first click: open last window.
* second click: show thumbnails.
* third+: cycle through windows – it is right?
After showing the thumbnails, the target window is not active anymore. Therefore, you get the “cycle through windows” behavior, which is by design.
I use this only for the ability to change volume using the mouse scrollwheel on the taskbar and I would like to thank you for a fantastic app.
version 5.2.1 of Kaspersky anti-virus Trojan detected. The program is not updated.
It was a false positive detection. Should be fixed now. VirusTotal page.
Ok.Thanks!
Hi,
“Cycle trough windows” does not work anymore as it did before Win10.
It displays thumbnail previews when I click on a taskbar icon for the first time, but it must NOT show them at all (especially if I disabled them with Hovering: Nothing).
When I keep clicking, it cycles through windows, but it should do it immediately when I click on the icon.
Thank you very much.
Adaz
I could not reproduce the problem. Are you sure that you’re not using the option “Open last window if inactive, otherwise open thumbnail preview”?
Also, note that the “Cycle trough windows” is actually available natively by holding the Shift button. The tweaker merely makes explorer think that the button is pressed. Try to turn off the tweaker, hold the Shift button, and see whether it works as expected.
Hi,
As I know it works when you press the CTRL button, not SHIFT.
It doesn’t matter, I’ve found the cause. Since I could not use 7TT for almost a year (because of the lack of support for Win10 preview builds), I found and applied another solution, a registy setting: reg:\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Lastactiveclick = 1. (I did not know that it was already present in Win7, so this was the most important reason why I chose 7TT earlier.)
With this setting enabled, 7TT did not work as expected. As I deleted this key, everythis is OK, thanks!
I mean “everything” 🙂
Yes, I meant Ctrl, not Shift. Anyway, good to know that you have found a solution, and thanks for sharing it.
Is there an option to increase the size of the windows start button?
No, no such option in 7+ Taskbar Tweaker.
Hello and thanks for a great product.
Is there a plan to implement, or does the app currently somehow allow us to re-arrange the jump list on docked taskbar applications?
We used to be able to do this in Win 7, but somehow that functionality disappeared in Win 10. It is a very helpful feature that we got so accustomed to using.
Thanks very much.
Hi,
It’s not implemented, and is not planned at this time.
